Abstract
Usmjerni protokoli služe usmjernicima za prijem i slanje informacija potrebnih za izradu usmjernih tablica paketa optimalnim putem između izvora i odredišta. Postoje usmjerni protokoli koji se koriste unutar autonomnih sustava (primjer takvog protokola je IGRP) i protokol koji se koristi između autonomnih sustava (BGP). Oni određuju optimalan put na temelju usmjerne metrike, koja može biti jednostavna, kao što je kod protokola RIP, ili složena (višestruka), kao što je kod protokola IGRP. Višestruke metrike omogućuju kvalitetniji izbor optimalnog puta kao i upravljanje mrežnim performansama.
