Abstract (english) | The Library of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb has joined the initiative for the preservation of the planet and the global UN Sustainable Development Program by organizing various programs and activities related to green topics. We have been guided by the recommendation of IFLA, which emphasizes that providing access to information and knowledge with the support of information and communication technology contributes to sustainable development and quality of life. The central activity of the Library is an exhibition of materials from the Library of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, which deals with the environment, its vulnerability and protection, and which aims to provide students and teachers access to information and knowledge that will encourage them to act and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by United Nations, called Change the World. The paper further describes the programs and activities implemented by the library, which include: participation in the Green Library project, global nature conservation campaign, collecting plastic caps for the NGO Association of Leukemia and Lymphoma, collecting and donation blankets, pillows, blankets and old newspapers to the Association for the Protection of Animals "Spas" in Varaždin, recycling, or giving new life to outworn books of other libraries and individuals by building a collection "Corner for free time", recycling used paper to make notebooks, recycling waste generated in the library, planting flowers and enriching the Library space with greenery, promotion and participation of librarians in the national campaign of planting trees in Croatia. We have set up a subpage on the Library's website dedicated to the topics of the environment and its protection. The aim of this paper is to educate the public and spread awareness and information about a sustainable society and the need to protect the environment. |
